Rachael Howard (member of the '62 group)
Drawing into Textiles - The talk will cover the importance of drawing in Rachael’s work and how the drawings are translated into figurative printed and embroidered textiles.  Rachael will describe the variety of projects she has undertaken in her textiles career.
Covetous Covered Buttons - Have fun making silk covered buttons using a variety of textile techniques including Bondaweb appliqué, carbon paper printing, fabric crayons and hand stitching, creating a pair of unique and beautiful covered buttons. The workshop is about exploring different textile techniques in order to decorate your buttons. You will begin with simple drawing exercises and learn how to translate the drawings on to a covered button.

Serendipity
Ideas, thoughts, possibilities – where do ideas come from – how are they progressed? Embroidery is such a rich field – this presentation gathers together starting points and outcomes. Marlene was introduced to embroidery by the legendary Margaret Nicholson at the London College of Fashion in the 70’s. She has been the Course Director for Textile Design at Birmingham City University for many years. This presentation will be a ‘patchwork’ of possibilities drawn from these influences and her own work.
