September 3rd - Stumpwork Insects - Anne Griffiths

This day was all about different techniques for making beetles  and butterflies. The butterflies were painted onto plain cotton or silk organza and after they had dried they were stitched onto the background with the addition of 'false eyelash ' antenna and the bodies were covered card or pelmet vylene.

The beetles wings were made using ' false nails' painted with nail varnish and then stitched over an embellished and raised  felt structure.

Here are our insects.

Thank you Anne for a lovely day.

2nd September - Stories and Stitch - Anne Griffiths

Anne started her lecture by telling us about her City and Guilds work and looking at Letters and Angels. Her interest in stitching started at an early age  She made this before she was 10.

These were some mini kimonos that showed a variety of techniques.

A lot of the work that she showed us was relating to a project she undertook with the stories of Alice in Wonderland . These are some of the panels that she did on silk organza for this project.

Anne concluded her talk by showing us how she produces illuminated letter with ' tomato puree tube or hand painting with machine stitch
Thank you Anne
