Nicola Jarvis lecture ''The Needle's Excellency''

                    Nicola's exquisite hand embroidery
Nicola studied at the Royal School of Needlework. The lecture was very much about her love of stitch and the beauty in historical costume and embroidery techniques.
This is Nicola's maquette casket. The project was for the Ashmolean museum, Oxford. A course was designed to teach stump work using botanical motifs and historical pattern books with Rachel's oak tree in the centre.
Students made beautiful wooden caskets, with the embroidery sunk into a recess in the lid.
This is a side panel of a student's cat, and then a picture of the box when finished

Consequently, the caskets became The Needle's Excellency exhibition.
The workshop to follow will be to embroider a marigold
