2013 = THIRTY YEARS

Ladies

In 2013, the Wolverhampton branch of the Embroiderers' Guild will be 30 years old. We intend to celebrate this big style with our own PEARL PARTY which will be a members' workshop with all the trimmings and finesse of a memorable party. We intend to mark the occasion with something special and produce ''PRECIOUS PAGES'' to celebrate our group and the amazing diversity of talents we have. We will keep you updated.

West Midlands Regional Day

June 23rd saw the 26th West Midlands Regional day, held at Shrewsbury and hosted by the Shrewsbury branch of the Embroiderers' Guild with help from Oswestry and District branch.
If you have never been to a Regional day, then you should really give it a try, and hopefully the photographs will reveal what a lot of fun can be had and that it is a great time to meet colleagues from other branches of the Guild, visit stall holders for some serious shopping, take part in activities such as the raffle and tombola, and hear a lecture from a visiting textiles Artist.
Doors open at 10am allowing time for coffee and biscuits and a little light shopping before the Regional Business Meeting.
Some names you may wish to know: on the left is Shrewsbury Branch Chair sitting next to the Chairman of the Guild Christine Poole. Rosemary Green is sitting centrally and is our regional Chair, with Gill Murley on the right who is responsible for Young Embroiderers'.
Only one presentation this year was made for 25 years membership.
Let a member of the committee know if you have been a member for 25 years so that you may receive your 'award' next year.

The Madeira Lecture was Alysn Midgelow-Marsden ''This Lustr'ed Cloth: Metal in Textile Art.'' The presentation was most informative and lots of Alysn's work was on display to view, touch and purchase.

Alyson's website

Janet just could not resist trying on a piece of Alysn's metal work - honestly - poor Martha!!

Some of us got a little stage struck and needed a better view of Alysn's work

Wolverhampton members were well represented today and you can see some of us having a good time in the main hall
Ruth Margaret + Lillian having too much fun
Pat and Sylvia - sorry Pat I know you were trying to avoid the lens :)
Two women in red

Cathy, Margaret, Shirley and Dot with Ruth muscling in, in the background with Margaret
Martha and Janet - Janet's the one with the shocked expression
The bunting in the background was a great way of leading you to everywhere you needed to go; from toilets to restaurant to stall holders, a lovely idea all hand made by members of the host guild

Thought you would like to see Ruth's new dress because a lot of us were unaware that Ruth has legs. Looking lovely Ruth

WHO IS THIS GOING UP FOR WINNING THE FIRST PRIZE? WHO WON THIS PRESTIGEOUS AWARD? IT CAN'T BE.....??

Margaret receiving her award from Alysn Midgelow-Marsden

Well done Margaret...and here is Margaret's winning piece for ''Our shared Industrial Heritage''

A very fitting end to a lovely day. Only three things left...tea, cake(s) and more shopping.
